Multiply your muses! Be pristine with each of them in turn. If you don’t address the most urgent one, there will be no hearing any other. Let your characters work it out. Each member of your perceived audience is potentially a muse. Whichever ear, real or imagined, is demanding your best articulation is a muse. Your muse may be helping you to find your own words. Your characters’ muses may be helping them to find their own words. Your muses can come from the realm of the once living, the now living, the wanting to live. They may come from the eternal, or the possible. They may come from the Other Side, with an altered, compassionate view of what life on earth was all about. Muses may be a window into the soul and spirit. Muses can come to you from the joined or separate realms of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, or from the various realms of Life Fully Lived. Your muse may be Jehovah, Jesus, the Holy Ghost, Brahma, Buddha, Allah, Krishna, or Mother Earth, who might have to balance them all. They may be gods, goddesses, and demi-gods and -goddesses. They may be figures of pivotal or daily or legendary history. They may be celebrities. Even in the guise of the everyday, each of your characters is a muse. If you offer total immersion in their worlds, your muse, your muses will make a writer of you. Listen to their promptings, and rejoice!
